Jack was born at home and was what my mother calls a Military Brat. Jack was my grandfather, and this is what I know of him.
Charles married first September 01, 1933 to Olive Qubin Gearhart who was born August 13, 1916 in New Kirk, New Mexico to James Lee Gearhart and Anna Laura Terry.

Jack and Olive had 5 children together:

Charles Thomas Parks known to friends and family as Charlie was born June 28, 1934 in Los Angeles, California, in Los Angeles County Gen. Hospital. He married Delores.
Charlie died August 05, 1955 while serving his country in the service, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Laramie County. He was buried in Fort Francis E Warren National Cemetery.

Jim Parks was born December 11, 1935 in San Angelo, Texas. In Shannon Hospital, Tom Green County at12:02 A.M. Jim married Guida Marie Areias DaSilva. He met her while serving in the military, in Portugal. They married March 15, 1958 in the Village of Lajes, County of Praia Da Vitoria, Portugal. According to my mother Jim had to enlist for an additional year to be able to bring her back to the states. They had 2 children Deborah and John. The last I heard Jim and Guida were living in Shady Cove Oregon.

Leon Patrick Parks was born March 17, 1941 in San Angelo Texas in Tom Green County, Leon was born at home at 505 North Chad St. at 7:30 am. Leon joined the military in 1960, and according to my Mother was discharged at Camp Delmonre at Pendleton, California. (I myself can't find any information on a Camp Delmonre, and wonder if maybe it was Camp Pendleton) Leon married Mary Helen Mandonado Madrid October 05, 1962. They had 5 children, Theresa Ann, Doreen Linda, Leona Lynn, Catherine Mary, and Leon Charles. In 1977 Leon made a trip to Drew Oregon to visit his parents, he went down to a local gas station to call his wife Mary who had stayed at home in Santa Ana California, while talking on the phone with her Leon collapsed in the phone booth and was later discovered by passers by. He was rushed to the local hospital and it was discovered that Leon had gone into a coma; Leon remained in the coma for 7 years if my memory serves me correctly, no one ever knew what had caused the coma. Leon's wife Mary finally decided to move him to their home and shortly after that Leon passed away March 29, 1984 in California.

Carol Jane Parks was born August 03, 1943 in Ellsinore, California, in Riverside County. Carol married Patrick Jordan and they had 4 children, Barbara, Susan, Patrick and Teresa.
Beatrice Olive Parks known to friends and family as Betty was born May 14, 1944 in El Monte, California, Los Angles County.
Charles Arthur Parks was divorced from Olive Gearhart June 10, 1952.

Charles "Jack" Parks later met Bertha May Scoggins daughter of Clifford Henry Scoggins and Theda Ruth Clary. Bertha was born May 24, 1925 at Winslow Camp, Colville, Washington, in Stevens County. They fell in love and began living together as partners May 24, 1950. They eventually married May 27, 1964 in Pomona California. Bertha and Jack had 3 children:

Michael Arthur Parks known to family as Mike was born October 14, 1954 in Medford Oregon at 5:06pm at Sacred Heart Hospital in Jackson County. Mike was married first to Theresa, and second to Mary Stainbrook. Mike and Mary had 2 children, Heather and Michael. Mike later divorced Mary and eventually met Sidney who he was living with when he passed away.
I remember Mike to be a very spirited man who loved excitement and adventure. I remember as a child I always marveled at his ability to stay alive as he wrecked more cars than any person I've ever known. Throughout his life Mike worked as a logger, a trucker and many other things. Mike developed lung cancer later in his life but ignored it and continued driving truck. He became extremely ill while traveling through California; he managed to drive home and then collapsed and died the next day, November 28, 1998. Mike was cremated and his ashes were given to his then girlfriend Sidney. Sidney was not close to the family and so no one in the family was notified until 3 months after Mike's passing.

George Thomas Parks known as Tom to family was born July 28, 1960 At home in Shady Cove Oregon. He was delivered by Jack his father. Tom is another fun loving spirited man who is always full of energy. Tom has worked many jobs in his life including logging, trucking, and even sheet rock hanging. Tom met his wife, Terri Kist and they married and had a daughter named Amanda. As Tom and his wife are still living I can't give out much more than this about him.

Michaelene Parks known to family and friends as Mic or Micky, was born February 13, 1952 in Orange County, Orange, California at 12:20am. Michaelene married first to Gene Charles Stocker October 04, 1968 via a common law marriage in Lucerne County California. They had 3 children, Robin Lynn, Cheryl Ann, and Brenda Marie. Michaelene divorced Gene in 1975 and went on to marry David Kersey, they had one daughter Dalene May. She married later Dale Geeseman.
Michaelene is my mother and as she is still living I can't give out any more information on her either.
Now here are my personal memories of Charles Arthur Parks "Jack" and his wife Bertha, my grandparents. Jack was a man of the mountains, as was his wife Bertha. Both of them had a love for nature and they did all they could to instill in their family the same passion. Grand Daddy had a green thumb and could grow almost anything, most prized of all was his roses which he had many of. I remember as a child we would go visit them almost every weekend in Drew Oregon, which is now no longer a town. They had a beautiful home there with many roses lining the front sidewalk, and strawberries down one side. Grand Daddy later built him a workshop out back of the house which was almost as big as the house itself. Grand Daddy and Grandma loved to work with wood, and at one time they made beautiful hunting knives which they custom made to fit the person they were making it for. They also made beautiful cases to hang them on your belt. Grandma and Grand Daddy also painted beautiful oil paintings, I remember as a child seeing many ocean scenes that they had done.
Grand Daddy also played the fiddle and many other instruments, playing at little dance halls and such. Here is a picture of him at the dance hall at Trail Oregon, this was taken sometime before 1951.
My grandparents worked as fire watchers for many years and they were known to move from one camp to another quite often, but Drew was always "home base". Often they would move to a camp in the mountains and would only make a trip to town once a month for provisions if necessary.
Both my grandparents were great at hunting and fishing, Grand Daddy was one of the best shots I've ever seen, in fact I remember as a child we had gone to visit them and we were standing outside and someone had spotted a deer off on a distant mountain side, Grand Daddy went for his gun and my mother laughed and said there was no way he could make that shot, Grand Daddy asked her if she would go pack it back down off the mountain if he did and she laughed and made the bet, boy was she sorry, Grand Daddy dropped that deer with one shot and laughed as he watched my Mother and Grandmother go up into the mountains to bring down his catch.

My Grandmother was also a good hunter, but she was also excellent at fishing I remember many times she took me out fishing with her when I was a child. She had the patience for it and seemed to know exactly where the fish were and when they would bite.
Both my grandparents were wonderful cooks, I remember every weekend we would wake to the sound of Grand Daddy starting up the wood stove in the living room to warm the house, then he would start making breakfast which would always be a huge meal in his home. They also made some of the best donuts I have ever eaten, donuts of every kind! Jelly filled, glazed, and my favorite, maple bars! I used to love walking into the kitchen and smelling all the wonderful smells that came out of there. My Mother has since told me that they had both worked as cooks over the years, though I do not know when or where.
A favorite story of my Grand Fathers was the story of the time he took my Grand Mother to town, Grandma had been born and raised in the hills and had never been down to the city. Grand Daddy finally took her to town and they started walking through, my Grandma was amazed and was staring up at the buildings, and Grand Daddy said she was busy telling him how much corn those buildings could hold and she mistakenly stepped out into the street before oncoming traffic, thankfully Granddaddy was there to pull her back to safety.
My grandparents also made money by going out and gathering pine cones which they sold to nurseries and other companies who bought them at the time. (My mother tells me the seeds were even used in the making of perfumes.) I remember as a child going out picking up pine cones with my grandparents, my Grandma could climb a tree with great ease, and she would get up in the limbs and cut the cones dropping them down to those of us on the ground gathering them.
Both my grandparents collected coins and stamps, and over the years they built up a massive collection which they kept stored away in cedar chests. Unfortunately these were all lost to them when their home in Drew Oregon was burned to the ground. By then both my grandparents were up in their years and Grand Daddy had come down with Alzheimer's disease so they had moved to Texas with my Mother and left their home and most of their belongings behind in Oregon. Family members have told me that the night the house burned down people came from far and wide to watch it, and after the smoke cleared many people were seen sifting through the ashes picking up chunks of coins which had melted together. Unfortunately everything was gone by the time family members were able to get to the home.
Grandmother also loved to crochet and made many beautiful creations over the years, she often sold her crocheted bed spreads and some adorable dolls that hung on the wall. (Before she passed she made sure that all of her grand children had one of her bed spreads to remember her by.)
My grandfather became very ill and was placed in Jarvis Heights Nursing home at Fort Worth Texas where he passed away May 10, 1988. He was cremated and his ashes were later taken back to Drew Oregon and scattered over his favorite hunting grounds.
Grandmother lived with my Mother for a while after his passing, then she lived with my Mothers 3rd husband Dale Geeseman in Texas until she became terribly ill, at which time my sister Cheryl who was then living at 35 River St. Hurtsboro, Alabama made a trip out to get her and brought her back to stay with her until her passing December 02, 1997. After her passing grandma was also cremated and her ashes were carried back home and scattered where her husbands were.

WHAT A SURPRISE!!
By Carol Martin
Tuesday started off well -- Tommy and I played 3 sets of ping pong in the carport. Then set out to broadcast stuff on the yard or bugs. I was using the hand-held spreader and he was following me with the bag for refills.
Walking down north side of the house (between house and carport) like from driveway is where our fig tree is and when I got down beside the tree, something caught my eye underneath it.
I'd left the live trap there, but had not 'set' it. I was like "oh gosh, caught a cat -- OMIGOSH THAT'S NOT A CAT!!!!!!!"
I'm like WHAT NOW!! and in soft voice to Tommy "BE VERY QUIET AND VERY CAREFUL - THERE IS A SKUNK IN THE LIVE TRAP!!! and of course he goes "A WHAT??!!!!"
At this point I was about THREEE FEET from the trap!!!! The skunk did not seem concerned at all that I was there -- Thank Goodness! Then we thought this lack of concern on the skunk's part could mean it was rabid!
GOLLY, I am SO GLAD that the dogs stayed in the FRONT yard when I took them out early in the morning!!!!!! I don't Even want to Think about that encounter!!!! I loaded the 3 22 shorts I had in my rifle thinking I could kill it quick if I hit it in the head and I've always been very good with that rifle. Didn't seem to faze it!!

The deputy later told me it would be very hard to kill them with a 22 as their brain is very small. I don't know if the bullets were deflected by the cage wire or what, but the skunk barely flinched and did turn it's tail toward me and raised the tail but otherwise was not upset and did not 'fire'! So I called the sheriff's dept. who sent out a deputy - who had quite a chuckle when he arrived, at our dilemma!! He said to use a shotgun - so Tommy got his 12 gauge and the 'threat' was over pretty quick. We didn't think the skunk ever 'fired' but it did let off some odor somehow and I'm going " AAARRRRGGHHHHH MY FIG TREE!!!!"
Today the odor has almost dissipated though, so I don't think it was sprayed and didn't actually hit my fig tree!!
Don't know when I'll use that trap again :-\ I had not put anything in it -- figs probably had dropped into it and attracted the skunk! I'd put it under there thinking about setting it for a coon and never did that. Have no idea why we
did not notice this skunk earlier, and all our racket and running around in the carport did not upset it!!
Reckon I would have some sort of 'critter tales' even if I lived in the middle of the city :-\
Have a Great Day! Love, --Carol Muston Martin - Texas

Also for those of you who don't know, Carol Martin is a granddaughter of Grandpa (SF Clyburn) sister, Nancy (Nanny) Clyburn Keyes. Her dad was the favorite nephew of our grandpa. His name was Warren Muston.
